We wrote about one such project last summer, in which a similar TTGO module was used to display transcripts of the Apollo 11 mission that had been broadcast 50 years after the mission had taken place. This particular board is referred to as the TTGO T-Display ST7789V . One that I have is running a sketch that displays weather data from a BME280 sensor with custom fonts, which is made possible by Bodmer's excellent TFT_eSPI library and the TFT_eSPI library.

It's a pretty cool little board, to be honest. Due to the fact that it is an IPS display, the display is crisp and has extremely wide viewing angles. As opposed to many other boards of this type, the two buttons on this board are actually usable in your sketches, rather than being reserved for reset and flash functions. Due to my preference for having boards with onboard displays to use in projects, I will have to order a few more of these in the future.

It's worth noting that the flash button (on gpio0) isn't "reserved" on any board that has one. At the trailing edge of the reset cycle, it only serves its flashing function. I agree that having more is a wonderful thing.

Using the TTGO T-Display board, I was able to accomplish something similar. Breakout, Conway's Life, Tetris and Asteroids are among the games I have on my phone. I also have a clock, a weather display, a weather app, and Asteroids. The trick is to squeeze as many different control inputs as possible out of just two buttons.

This device serves as a temperature monitor for my car refrigerator (the project was conceived with the goal of being implemented in a cold room monitoring system for a client of mine).

I've always wanted to work on a project that had a little personality to it. A code that could behave in accordance with certain emotional traits, with a dash of randomness thrown in for good measure.
