We can produce steel castings by sand casting process, water glass investment casting and silica sol investment casting process; however, some buyers are confused when choosing, here we briefly introduce their differences, advantages and disadvantages.
What is sand casting, water glass casting, silica sol casting?
1. The sand casting process uses wet clay sand as the main molding material, which is cheap. 2. The water glass investment casting process uses water glass quartz sand as the modeling material, and the temperature resistance can reach 1800 degrees, but it is more expensive than wet clay sand. 3. The silica sol investment casting process uses silica sol zircon sand as the modeling material, and the temperature resistance can reach 2000 degrees. This molding material is very expensive.
Casting surface quality, surface defects 1. The surface of sand castings is very rough, with many surface and internal defects. 2. The surface finish of water glass investment castings is good, and the surface and internal defects of the castings are less 3. The surface quality of silica sol investment castings is very good, very smooth, with very few surface and internal defects.
Casting complexity, unit weight and wall thickness variance The sand casting process can produce very heavy and very large steel castings, but cannot be used to produce castings that are too small, too complex, or too thin-walled.
